Folios 368-369: Andrew Broun, Regulating Officer, Greenock. Concerning the enclosed petitions. The Petitioners were put on board the Rosa tender by Captain Hugh McConochy, Commander of the Prince of Wales Revenue Cutter. They are able bodied men and claimed to be fishermen. On the reverse: Captain Hugh McConochy, Revenue Service to Captain Andrew Broun, Regulating Captain, Greenock, 22 November 1809. Has put on board the Rosa tender James Murphy, Lachlan Thomson, John Murphy and Robert McNeil, all are known smugglers belonging to the south of Arran. They were taken last night off Ailsa Craig in a large boat, they threw their cargo of salt overboard whilst being chased. The cargo was loaded in Ireland was bound for Scotland. James Murphy was discharged, being old and infirm.
Folios 370-371: enclosure with folios 368-369. Petition dated 24 November 1809 of Robert McNeil, Shoemaker, Arran. Asks to be released from the press. Claims he was travelling from the coast of Ayr to the Isle of Arran with friends and was taken by Captain Hugh McConochy off Ailsa Craig being accused of smuggling, which he denies. Asks for the reply to be sent to Alexander McClean, Greenock.
Folios 372-374: enclosure with folios 368-369. Petition dated 24 November, 1809 by John Murphy, Farmer, Arran. Asks to be released from the press, Claims he was travelling from the coast of Ayr to the Isle of Arran with friends and was taken by Captain Hugh McConochy of the Revenue, off Ailsa Craig, being accused of smuggling, which he denies. He is the only support of an aged person and has already served in the service on HMS Eagle and Royal George. Asks for the reply to be sent to Alexander McClean, Greenock.
Folios 374-375: enclosure in folios 368-369. Petition dated 24 November 1809 by Lachlan Thomson, Farmer, Arran. Asks to be released from the press. Claims he was travelling from the coast of Ayr to the Isle of Arran with friends and was taken by Captain Hugh McConochy of the Revenue off Ailsa Craig accused of smuggling, which he denies. He is the support of his father, aged 87 and mother, aged 80. Asks for the reply to be sent to Alexander McClean, Greenock.
