Folios 340-343: Richard Runwa Bowyer, Regulating Captain, Lyme. As the Lieutenant was ill, he took a Midshipman with on the night of 21 November 1809 and secured James Steward, Seaman and was proceeding to the Rendevous. Two men, Thomas Leaster, Mate of the Fountain Greenland ship and Matthew Sharpe, a line manager came with bludgeons to take Steward. The Mate attacked the Midshipman and the other the man belonging to the gang but had no success so made off. He has secured Sharpe as well and is sending his protection from the Greenland ship. He hopes their Lordships will justify him in keeping Sharpe for the service.
Folio 341: enclosure in folios 340-343. Printed protection from the port of Lyme Regis for Matthew Sharpe, aged 19, born at Leith and resides at South Shields, Northumberland. Employed as a Line manager for the Fountain, Joseph Phillips, Master. Certified by Robert Pitcher, Mustering Officer.
