Folios 238-239: Edward Brace HMS Virginie, Hamoaze. On the directions of Rear Admiral James Hawkins-Whitshed, he reports that Charles Norman the second Seaman aged 22 was impressed on 25 September 1807 out of the Mary recaptured ship, not being Chief Mate of the said vessel, but a young man just out of his apprenticeship, acting in that situation as a protection, the old and proper Chief Mate being on board at the time. Further friends of Charles Norman came forward and offered two substitutes for his discharge.
