Description

Folios 248-250: Matthew Barton Bradby, HMS Calypso, North fleet. Asks for the 35 men ordered by Vice Admiral Stanhope from HMS Devastation, bomb vessel, to be allowed as part of the ship's company rather than as supernumeraries. Encloses a letter from Commodore Owen approving of the effort taken to get the ship off the Goodwin Sands, last December. Advises that he is the only son of Rear Admiral Bradby, having lost two brothers in the West Indies during the last war, one a port Captain commanding HMS Andromeda and the other a Commander on his passage home and he hopes this will be taken into consideration in addition to asking for Vice Admiral Stanhope's view of his conduct whilst on the River.

Folios 250-251: enclosure with folios 248-250. Letter dated 21 December 1806 by Commodore Owen, HMS Clyde, Falmer Road to Captain Bradby, HMS Calypso. Advises he had ordered Captain Salt, HMS Leveret to Captain Bradby's assistance but it was not required as he had arrived at the Nore having saved HMS Calypso in her critical situation after getting on the Goodwin. Asks that his approbation of Captain Bradby and his Officers and crew be made known to the Admiralty.
