Description

Folio 240: Edward Brace, HMS Virginie. Encloses information received from the Danish brig, St. Anna bound for Tonningen. The Master of the vessel, Jorgen Gad Freitas? spoke with the Captain of a British Man of War off Malaga. He thinks that Lord Collingwood may be aware of the circumstances.

Folios 241-242: enclosure with folio 240. Letter dated 2 May 1807 by Captain Samuel Brenton, HMS Spartan off Toulon to Lord Collingwood. About falling in with a French squadron, consisting of 2 frigates and a corvette, off the coast of Corsica near Bastia. After being chased, he managed to escape by crossing the headmost frigate and getting to the westward. He than sailed for Toulon with the hope of falling in with HMS Sirius. but at Cape Sepette fell in with a French ship that chased him and he was unable to reconnoitre the enemy harbour. He will send this information to all squadrons and detachments under Lord Collingwood.

Folio 242: enclosure with folio 241. Similar letter to folios 241-242 dated 2 May 1807 by Captain Samuel Brenton, HMS Spartan, off Toulon after sailing off Bastia and to the north of Capraia. Letter sent for the benefit of Officers who may board the Danish brig.
