Appears to be asking permission to promise the mother of a Mr. Thompson that if exchanged he will pass as a Lieutenant. He was was despatched to the Downs in charge of a collier Camilea of Sanditon[?]but has not arrived at his destination. He may have been taken by a privateer. He is at a loss as to how to deal with the distressed mother.
