Folios 9-10: Henry Edward Reginald Baker, Jupiter at sea. Takes advantage of ships leaving for St. Helena to send a progress report. He has ordered the East India Company ship The Surat Castle, bound for Canton, into Rio de Janeiro for repairs. Encloses report explaining necessity for this. HMS Steady under Lieutenant Stow will accompany her for protection. Heard from an American ship [not named] boarded on 1 june that it had previously been boarded by Captain Sibley of HMS Hermes who has a convoy of troops bound for Monte Video. They haven't seen them though they can't be far away.
Folio 10: enclosure with folios 9-10. Report of the state and condition of the East India Company ship Surat Castle signed by Joseph Baines, Master of HMS Jupiter and William Byng, carpenter of HMS Jupiter.
