Folios 431-432: Henry Samuel Butt, HMS Spitfire, the Downs. Wishes to commend his officers and company, in addition to his mention of his Lieutenants in a public letter to Commodore Owen. The acting Master, William Andrews, was appointed from the post of Gunner of HMS Inspector and had previously served with Commander Butt in India in HMS Phoenix with Captain Sir Richard Strachan, when they captured the French ship La Resolue, and subsequently with Sir Richard Bligh in HMS Alexander and in the same ship with Sir Alexander Ball at the Battle of the Nile. After some time in Egypt, Andrews has been in action twice since with Commander Butt, once off Ostend. He has a wife and two children to support, and has served his time as a Midshipman. Recommends Andrews for promotion to Lieutenant. He asks the Admiralty to excuse any inaccuracies in his letter, he has been hampered in writing it by the loss of his right thumb.
