Folio 405: Robert Barrie, HMS Brilliant, Lough Crainish [Craignaish]. He is sorry to hear the Admiralty cannot intervene in the case of the Aurora. He will return as soon as possible to Cork. Is sending a copy of Lord Gardner's order concerning the Aurora. He received no reply to his previous request for directions and so he acted according to his judgement. Defends himself from the severe rebuke he has received.
Folio 406: enclosure with folio 405. Copy of an order dated 9 January 1805 by command of the Admiral signed by John Day in the absence of the Secretary, HMS Trent, Cork harbour, to Robert Barrie, HMS Brilliant. Order to take the Aurora under convoy and proceed to a port in England. He is to preserve the cargo, complying with the opinion given by Doctor Nichol, King's Advocate.
