Folios 370-371: Robert Barton, HMS Goliath, at sea. He would be extremely sorry to lose Thomas Carroll, Boatswain, who has been applied for by Captain Brisbane of HMS Arethusa. In addition to the men listed by him in his letter of 14 [May 1805] Captain Brisbane has taken John Engledere, Master and Thomas Simpson, Surgeon. He has also discharged 13 men into HMS Foudrayant by order of Lord Gardner. If Captain Brisbane's application for his boat's crew is granted it will materially affect HMS Goliath as she is already 49 short of her complement.
