Description

Folio 361: Edward Bass, HMS Gannet, off Penzance. Is sending copies of letters sent to the Customs Commissioners. to which he has had no reply. Asks for directions as to whether he should take action against Mr Johns or Mr Ferris.

Folio 362: enclosure with folio 361. Copy of letter dated 16 April 1805 from Edward Bass, HMS Gannet off Penzance, to Honourable Commissioners of H M Customs, London. Describes the circumstances of the seizure of the Ranger smuggler made on 4 [April 1805] by the Dart Cutter of Fowey calling herself the Dolphin tender, Master Mr Ferris, one of the Mates of the Dolphin near the Lizard. Describes the part played by HMS Gannet in the chase. Richard Johns, Commander of the Dolphin says that he will consult the board. Asks for their opinion regarding HMS Gannet's entitlement to a share.

Folio 363: enclosure with folio 361. Copy of letter dated 28 May 1805 from Edward Bass, HMS Gannet off Penzance, to Honourable Commissioners of H M Customs, London. He wrote on 16 [April 1805] claiming a half share of the seizure made by Mr Ferris, mate of the Dolphin cutter on 4 [April 1805]. He can obtain no answer from him or Mr Johns, commanding the Dolphin. Asks for their opinion.
