Description

Folios 235-236: Charles John Austen, HMS Namur, Sheerness Harbour. About his orders, dated 6 October 1813, to make a weekly return of Warrant Officers waiting for employment and of Petty Officers' candidates for warrants, and this included all those who had passed their examinations. Thomas Powell and James Collins were included in the books of HMS Namur awaiting warrants and others included who received promotion, as expressed in their pay lists were also returned. James Millett, previously Gunner of HMS Medway was likewise returned, having produced a letter from the Admiralty, inserting his name in the list of candidates for an appointment. In future, he will only return those who are specifically ordered.
