Folio 231: Charles John Austen, HMS Namur, Sheerness Harbour. About the examination of Lieutenant William West, which he attended with Captain McKenzie, HMS Venus and Captain Bell, HMS Ardent, who claimed he was unable to use his arm and hold a pen and produced a dispensing order for his logs and a strong certificate from one or more of his Captains. They had no idea that Lieutenant West was illiterate.
Folios 232-233: enclosure with folio 231. Letter dated 20 October [1815?] by Lieutenant William West, Debtors Side, Newgate, to the Admiral. Asks for consideration of an enclosed memorial [not present] and for his past service.
