Folio 414: John Ayscough, HMS Success, Chatham. John Limbrey Bishop, Midshipman wants to take his exam for Lieutenant on Wednesday but has lost his papers.
Folios 415-416: enclosed in folio 414. Letter dated 15 October 1810 by John Ayscough, HMS Success, off Civita Vecchia, coast of Rome to the Admiralty. Describes how Midshipman John Limbrey Bishop was put on board a captured French brig to go to Messina to join HMS Espoir for Malta but the brig sprung a leak and foundered and Captain Mitford of HMS Espoir saved the Midshipman and crew but they lost all their belongings and journals. Bishop has served on HMS Glory, Hibernia, Barfleur and Success. He hopes he can take his examination for Lieutenant.
