Folios 379- 381: John Ayscough, HMS Success, the Downs. Asked William Levington, Master of the brig the Sicily, owners Turner and Co, Cooks Jackson and Maud, Water Lane, to tow another ship. He refused saying he did not have the canvas to use on another ship. He refused to come on board until he had a warning shot astern. He then came on board but refused to obey any orders and behaved in a very insolent manner. He did eventually tow the other ship but only after being threatened with being reported to Lloyds. Ayscough hopes he will be punished for his insolence and disobedience.
