Folio 247: Beeston Long, Bishopsgate Street.
Encloses a letter from Captain Alms and a copy of the resolution of the West India Merchants of 10 September 1793 to which he refers.
Folios 248-249: enclosure with folio 247. Letter dated 30 May 1803 by James Alms [James Almes], Brecon, South Wales to Beeston Long.
Reminds him that the merchants in Lloyds Coffee House were very appreciative when his convoy escorted a valuable cargo home in 1793. He has bad luck since then being injured when HMS Repulse was wrecked off France. He asks their support in appealing to their lordships to appoint him to take the first convoy to Jamaica.
Folios 250-252: enclosure with folio 247. Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the West India Merchants, Held at the Marine Society's Office, London, on 10 September 1793, Beeston Long in the chair.
A motion is passed that a letter be sent to Commodore Alms thanking him for his unremitting attention to the safety of the convoy which sailed from Jamaica on 27 June 1793.
