Folios 252-253: James Alms. He reports that M. Najac ordonnateur de marine at Brest has given him permission to return to England in the company of his purser and the ship's surgeon and so he has signed a parole to enable him to do that. When they got to Morlaix he was delayed by further orders from M. Najac.
He also writes that during his stay in Quimper he learned more of the circumstances that lead to the loss of his ship, HMS Repulse, the loss of the prize and the death of members of his crew. He concludes as a result that Lieutenant Rothery is equally to blame as the Master. He adds that in his view the death of Mr Mathew is a great loss to the Navy as he was a good officer.
