Incorporated by act of 25th July 1872. Under agreement dated 4th December 1872 Ryde & Newport Railway and Cowes and Newport Railway (q.v.) were administered as a joint concern; and under Isle of Wight Central Railway Act of 1887, Ryde & Newport, Cowes & Newport, and Isle of Wight (Newport Junction) railway companies were amalgamated from 1st July 1887 to form Isle of Wight Central Railway Company.
Isle of Wight Central Railway Company was transferred to and absorbed by London & South Western Railway Company at midnight on 31st December 1922 under London & South Western Railway (Southern Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme 1922 dated 23rd December 1922. London & South Western Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company from 1st January 1923 under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
