Description

Folio 195: William Robert Broughton, HMS Penelope, Yarmouth Roads. Reports that he dispatched 30 Impressed men in Mr Hadley's Cutter to the Nore. On the same day HMS Mariner arrived with only 3 men and two Revenue Cutters employed on the same service returned without any, also 2 men from the Whitby Rendezvous. In answer to Mr Marsden's letter of yesterdays date, he states that James Carr appears to have been professionally a Seaman for 38 years. Encloses the State and Condition report [not present] of HM Ship under his command and HMS Mariner Gun Brig and return the enclosures, also the weekly account [not present] of HMS Bold Gun Brig.

Folio 196: enclosure with folio 195. Letter dated 9 May 1803 by Edward Grose Smith, Bakers Hall. Certificate that James Carr of Thames Street, Greenland Dock is a freeman and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Bakers of the City of London.

Folios 197-199: enclosure with folio 195. Ann Carr wife of James Carr one of the Liverymen of the Worshipful Company of Bakers of the City of London has made oath on 9 May 1803, that her said husband was impressed and is now on HMS Penelope in Yarmouth Roads.
