Description

Folio 176: William Robert Broughton, HMS Penelope, Yarmouth Roads. Reply to letter dated 20 April 1803. States that the apprentice Thomas Gibbs is 18 and has been 3 years at sea and that John Wheldon answers to the description of the enclosed certificate being 54 years old but had no documents to prove he was a Carpenter. Returns the enclosures and weekly account of HM Ships under his command.

Folios 177-178: enclosure with folio 176. Letter dated 18 April 1803 by James Walker, London, to Evan Nepean. Covering letter for the enclosed indentures of Thomas Gibbs who has been impressed. Request his discharge.

Folio 179: enclosure with folio 176. Letter dated 18 April 1803 by Thomas Williams, Kinaing Lane, to Evan Nepean. Covering letter for the enclosed affidavit for John Wheldon, Carpenter of the ship William who was impressed from that ship on his passage from Shields to London with Coal.

Folio 180: enclosure with folio 176. Baptism certificate for John son of Christopher Wheldon baptised on 28 February 1749.

Folios 181-182: enclosure with folio 176. Affidavit of William Haddock of Sunderland in the County of Durham, Master of William of London employed on the Coal Trade. Signed by William Haddock on the 7 April 1803 sworn at the Public Office in Shadwell before George Story [Justice of the Peace].
