Description

Folio 165: William Robert Broughton, HMS Penelope, Yarmouth Roads. It appears that John Stanling and George Moody were improperly pressed by the Lieutenant's of HMS Leda and HMS Penelope. As per commands he discharged Thomas Moore, Richard Carter and William Brown and have directed Captain Robert Honeyman on the same subject by the Revenue Cutter which carried the Lieutenant of HMS Leda to join her. He dispatched yesterday 11 new raised men in Mr Hadley's Cutter to the Nore and 10 more that they were unable to take in HMS Cruiser that sailed this morning with impressed men from Shields.

Folio 166: enclosure with folio 165. Letter dated 15 April 1803 by William Marsden, Admiralty, to William Robert Broughton, HMS Penelope, Yarmouth. Having laid before the Admiralty the enclosed petition and indenture from John Ash Smith, Master of the ship Peggy, of North Shields, requesting the discharge of his apprentice George Moodey [Moody], impressed and detained aboard HMS Penelope to signify their direction to you to report a state of his case, returning the enclosures with your report.
