Description

Folios 382-383: Charles Worsley Boys, HMS Amaranthe, Long Reach. He has been asked to explain more about Thomas Scarth and William Wetherby and Thomas MacKay (or Mackie), three impressed men all of whom appear to have been apprentices.

Folio 383: enclosure with folios 382-383. Statement dated 18 May 1803 by Robert Oates, the master of the brig Providence states that Thomas Scarth is an apprentice under an indenture, which he attaches to John Hunter. He asks for Scarth's discharge.

Folio 384: enclosure with folios 382-383. Sworn affidavit of Robert Oates master of the brig Providence dated 12 April 1803 stating that Thomas Scarth, son of Thomas Scarth of Woody Fields, is a bound apprentice to John Hunter of Sunderland. Sworn before John Mc Duff, mayor of Sunderland.

Folio 385: Blank.

Folio 386: enclosure with folios 382-383. Sworn statement of John Heppel dated 18 May 1803. He is the master of the brig Ann and swears that William Weatherby is an indentured apprentice and has been wrongfully impressed and asks for his release.

Folio 387: enclosure with folios 382-383. Sworn statement of John Heppel of Blythe in Northumberland and master of the Brig Ann. the statement was sworn at the Public Office at Shadwell in Middlesex on 12 May 1803 before Rupert Clarke and stating that William Weatherby is an indentured apprentice and has been wrongfully impressed. He seeks his release.

Folios 388-389: enclosure with folios 382-383. The humble petition of James Main master of the Brig The Favourite of Aberdeen, sworn 18 May 1803 at the Hermitage moorings at Hoars Wharf. He is employed in the Fishing and Coasting Trades. He sayes the apprentice Thomas Mackie who is indentured to Mr John Webster and owner of The Favourite has been wrongfully impressed and asks for his release.
