Description

Folio 366: Charles Worsley Boys, HMS Amaranthe, Long Reach. He encloses a report on a number of impressed men.

Folios 367-368: enclosure to folio 367. The men listed are Mathew Sayer whose indenture appears to be faulty. Robert Gibbs also an apprentice but almost at the end of his term. Josiah Siimpson who although an apprentice appears to have volunteered. Alexander Watts another apprentice two years into his indenture. Thomas Walker has an indenture but it is not signed and John Harrison who was a carpenter on board the Paragon.

Folio 369: enclosure to folio 367. The humble petition of Simon Slades Master Mariner of Northumberland and of the ship the Elizabeth sworn on 1803 May 16. He states Josiah Simpson is his apprentice and asks for his release.

Folios 370-372: enclosure to folio 367. Certificate sworn by Simon Slade on 16 May 1803 to the effect that he is from Shields in Northumberland, a master mariner and master of the ship Elizabeth. He states that Simon Slades, his apprentice, was impressed and asks that he be sent home. The petition is sworn at the Mansion House before Sir Charles Price Lord Mayor of London.

Folio 371: Blank.

Folio 372: enclosure to folio 367. Letter dated 17 May 1803 by J Telkampff, Shadwell. He writes that the indentures of Robert Gibb and Mathew Sayer are enclosed together with affidavits from their masters.

Folio 373: enclosure to folio 367. Affidavit sworn by David Donkin at the Public Office at Shadwell on 14 May 1803. He is the master of the ship Triptolemus of Sunderland and sayes that Mathew Sayer or (Sare) was impressed, though an apprentice, while his ship was sailing up the Thames with a cargo of coal.

Folio 374: enclosure to folio 367. An affidavit sworn on 16 May 1803 at the Public Office in Shadwell by Joseph Miller of South Shields the master of the Britannia which is engaged in the coal trade. He states that when sailing up the Thames with a cargo of coal his apprentice Robert Gibb was wrongfully impressed.

Folio 375: enclosure to folio 367. Certificate sworn on 16 May 1803 at the Public Office, Lambert Street by Andrew Crawford who swears he is the master of the ship the London and his apprentice Alexander Watts was wrongfully impressed given he had both an indenture and a Protection certificate which he encloses. (Not enclosed)

Folio 376: enclosure to folio 367. Petition of Andrew Crawford which repeats the facts of folio 365. Drawn up by Inigo Newall, Agent of 33 Burr Street.

Folios 377-378: enclosure to folio 367. The petition of John Kelly Master of the ship the Peggy from South Shields. He records the impress of Thomas Walker who was apprenticed to Thomas Cowey owner of the Peggy. He encloses the Indenture (not enclosed) and asks for his discharge.

Folios 379-380: enclosure to folio 367. The sworn affidavit dated 14 May 1803 of James Marshall of Sunderland, master of the ship the Paragon which is engaged in the coal trade. He reports the impress of John Harrison, his ship's carpenter. At the time of his impress he showed the officer an affidavit made by James Marshll before George Robson a magistrate in Sunderland which certified that he was the ship's carpenter. Further he sayes he does not believe the man to be a deserter.

Folios 380-381: enclosure to folio 367. Letter dated 14 May 1803 by J Telkampff, Shadwell. He encloses the affidavit of James Marshall which swears that John Harrison is the carpenter of the ship Paragon and has been impressed. He asks for his discharge.
