Folio 209: Duncombe Pleydell Bouverie, HMS Mercury, Downs. He reports that as he has neither a bow nor a stern gun on his ship he has asked the Board of Ordnance for two six pounder guns to make good the deficiency. The Board has, however, stated that this request has to be first approved by the Admiralty. Accordingly he asks approval for both for two long six pounders for the quarterdeck and two for the forecastle in addition to the twenty eight guns already on board.
