Folio 428: Philip Beaver, Maldon. Encloses letter received that day from Lieutenant Baker at the Tillingham Grange signal station.
Folios 429-431: enclosure with folio 428. John Eades Baker, Tillingham Grange, Southminster, Essex dated 10 October 1803. States that whilst the Signal House was under repair for seven weeks he had to pay a guinea per week for lodgings. He now has to procure water and all provisions, neither of which are closer than four miles. During the last war a horse was allowed at the station for procuring water etc. Requests compensation for his expenses and an allowance of a guinea a week which is what the Officer at Foulness gets.
