Folio 314: James Bradby, HMS Ariadne. Asking for Admiralty assistance with a claim to the Victualling Board. During the time the Ariadne was stationed off St Helens with a squadron of gun vessels, two French fishing boats were sometimes employed as tenders, and later in the expedition to Ostend. His purser, James Kennedy, supplied these vessels with coals and candles etc, during that period. The cost was £14.9s, and though he has supplied a certificate that the expense was necessary, the board will not allow the claim without a directive from their Lordships.
