Folio 272: William Bowen, HMS Caroline, Woolwich. Acknowledging Admiralty letter of instruction to discharge all petty officers and others from the Caroline to the Alarm. He will comply immediately but notes that a quantity of warrant officers' stores and ballast are still aboard, and he would be glad if he could keep enough men to overhaul them and return them to the store. He also asks to keep his coxswain and boat crew, as well as his brother and others who have acted as his servants in the ship. They are: Charles Bowen, master's mate, Joseph Louis Pitzona[?] and Joseph Antonio, both Spaniards, Rhys Thomas, captain's cook, and Edward Grange, wardroom steward.
