Folio 270: William Bowen, HMS Caroline at Woolwich. Advising that Samuel Boulton, appointed acting gunner on 28 February 1800, has conducted himself very well, particularly on 'many arduous enterprises in the boats ... cutting the enemy's vessels from under their batteries'. Strict attention to orders, steadiness and bravery have won Bowen's 'warmest recommendation' - hopes their Lordships will confirm his appointment to the Caroline.
