Folio 259: William Bowen, HMS Caroline, Portsmouth Harbour. Notes that some while ago, when the ship was at Spithead, a Mr Williams came aboard with an order as acting purser, signed by Lord Keith, superseding Mr Walsh, the then acting purser. He had told Mr Williams to write to their Lordships advising of his appointment, and soon after that Mr Walsh absented himself and has not been found since, despite many enquiries. Says the ship is now totally without wood, coals and candles.
