Folios 237-239: William Bolton, Ipswich. Wishes to draw their Lordships' attention to John Field, who served as Master's Mate in the Dart from 1 August 1800 to 19 October 1802, and who always conducted himself as a sober, diligent and good officer. Field has confessed that he deserted from HMS Canada on 8 May 1798, and immediately entered HMS Rosario under his own name. He was rated master's mate and continued in her, as is clear from his certificates, until she was burnt in Dunkirk Roads, 8 July 1800, at the time the Desiree was captured. He then entered on board HMS Dart. His record speaks strongly in his favour according to various captains, says Bolton, and of his wish to pass the examination for lieutenant. Asks that the R may be removed from his name in the Canada's books in consequence of HM's 'gracious' proclamation of 30 July 1801, so that this period of service may be allowed.
