Description

Folios 463-464: William Butterfield, HMS Hazard, off Dover. Reports his arrival from Cork this day with a convoy in accordance with his orders from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner. Describes his success in escorting convoys between Ireland and England over the last three years and asks for the Admiralty's favours on his service. Acknowledges receipt of their letter advising a Court Martial will be ordered, on his arrival in England, on Lieutenant [Alexander] Douglas. Advises that he parted company, off Falmouth, with the Dutch Men of War and Transports with the Dutch Le Roy bound for Guernsey on 2 July 1801 and who had sailed with him in company from Cork on 30 June 1801.

Folios 464-465: enclosure with folios 463-464. Orders, dated 26 June 1801, from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, HMS Phoebe, Cork Harbour to William Butterfield, HMS Hazard. Orders to take under his command the Jane Betty Higgins, the Benjamin, the Betsey, the Lucy and the John Booker, along with any trade that may be bound to the Downes or other ports in the English Channel.

Folios 465-466: enclosure with folios 463-464. Orders, dated 28 June 1801, from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, HMS Phoebe, Cork Harbour to William Butterfield, HMS Hazard. Orders to take under his command any West Indian Men who came into the harbour over the last 2 days bound for London and were part of the convoy which sailed from St Christopher's on 6 May 1801 under the protection of HMS Montague, HMS Unite and HMS Daphne.
