Description

Folio 459: William Butterfield, HMS Hazard, Spithead. Advises that according to Orders from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, copy enclosed, he has seen the convoy safely into the Downes and arrived at Spithead this day.

Folio 460: enclosure with folio 459. Copy of Orders, dated, 11 June 1801, from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, HMS Dryad, Cork Harbour to William Butterfield.To receive on board from HMS Dryad, 5 Seamen prisoners belonging to HMS Glenmore, charged by Captain John Talbot of mutiny and who have taken an oath not to proceed to sea in the ship while Talbot was in command. To deliver, after seeing the convoy safe around the south of Ireland, the prisoners to Spithead to HMS Royal William or any ship as the Commander in Chief at Portsmouth thinks proper and kept in confinement until HMS Glenmore arrives at Spithead.

Folio 461-462: enclosure with folio 459. Copy of Orders, dated, 11 June 1801, from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, HMS Dryad, Cork Harbour to William Butterfield. To take under his charge the Ceres Transport ship, the Endeavour and the Welcome brigs, and the Nancy schooner, laden with provisions on Government account, under convoy to the Downs or other ports in the Channel. To regulate his rate of sailing with the worst ship of the convoy. To see the Ceres to Dunmore and the Victualling vessels and other Trade as may be bound to the Downs safely around the south of Ireland and then return to Cork.
