Folios 452-453: enclosure with folios 451-455: Copy of Orders, dated 25 March 1801, from Admiral Lord Alan Gardner, on board HMS Engageante at Cork Harbour to William Butterfield, HMS Hazard. Orders to cruise westward of Cape Clear [position given] where a French Privateer has been sighted, for the safety and protection of the Trade and the annoyance of the enemy's cruisers. On 15 April 1801 to proceed around the West coast of Ireland and cruise for 7 days off Gory Island, keeping a look out for any Swedish or Danish vessels, and then to proceed to Belfast and make the signal for convoy, taking under his charge the Hibernian Linen ship any other Trade vessels willing to accompany him. To write to the Merchants at Newry of his arrival at Belfast advising he will call at the port for any Trade and that he is to put to sea from Belfast on 30 April 1801, proceeding as expeditiously as possible consistent with the safety of the Trade, regulating his rate with the worst sailing vessel of the convoy. To remain at Spithead for only 48 hours for stores and then to return to Cork, taking a range around the Isles of Scilly, keeping a good look out for the enemy's privateers that may be hovering around those islands.
