Description

Folios 402-403: George Burdett, HMS Sophie, Spithead. Acknowledges receipt of letter of yesterday from Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole, directing him to postpone sailing with the convoy for Newfoundland until 25 March 1801. Lists the papers and packets received from Vice Admiral Charles Morice Pole for the different officers at Newfoundland: 2 orders dated 10 February 1801, 1 sealed secret packet directed to Captain [George] Burdett, 1 packet to Senior Officer in command at Newfoundland,1 packet each to Captain [Henry Folkes] Edgell, Captain Thompson, Lieutenant [Jasper] Scrambler, Brigadier General Sherrit, 1 packet to the Collector of Customs and 1 packet to William Carter; Private Signals, marked most secret in packets to Captain Egdell and Captain Thompson; Orders to postpone the sailing of the Newfoundland convoy from 1 March to 16 March 1801; Orders to postpone the sailing of the Newfoundland convoy from the 10 March to 25 March 1801.
