Description

Folios 339-341: Rowley Bulteel, HMS Belliqueux, Macoa [Macao] Roads, Canton. Advises he took the opportunity of the Denmark, a Danish ship passing on her way to Europe, to report his arrival with 5 China ships under convoy, in Macao Roads on Monday, 16 February 1801. States that his voyage was remarkably tedious owing to contrary winds, light airs and calms, with intervals of very bad weather. Explains that he has not had time, being under sail, to give a particular account of his voyage but now encloses the State of the Defects of the ship which demonstrates the bad condition of the ship. Advises that he has applied to the Chinese Government through the President and Select Committee of Supra Cargoes at Canton for leave to go into a convenient place to repair the ship but he application was peremptorily refused. Says he is now completing stores and water and fishing the Main Mast and hopes to get down the China Sea before the chance of the monsoon with the intention of putting into the harbour at Penang where he hopes the Cutwater can be secured.
