Folios 322-326: Edward Buller, HMS Edgar, Hamoaze. Requests a junior Lieutenant is appointed to replace Lieutenant Forbes [Robert Forbes] who is in bad health with no probability of his recovering for many months.
Folio 323: enclosure with folios 322-326. Report, dated 25 December 1801, complied by T Trotter, Physician of the Fleet, Hamoaze on Robert Forbes, Lieutenant, HMS Edgar. Advises that a contusion to the head has made Forbes dull of hearing but for some months his complaint has amounted to deafness and is now incapable of taking charge of his watch especially in cold weather.
Folio 324: enclosure with folios 322-326. Letter, dated 24 December 1801, from Robert Forbes, Lieutenant, HMS Edgar, to Edward Buller. Advises that he has for a long time been inflicted with deafness which is greatly increased from the season and inevitably prevents him from discharging his duty. States that he has communicated his case to the Physician who approves of his retiring invalided until his hearing improves.
