Description

Folios 319-320: Charles Bullen, HMS Wasp, St George's Bay, Sierra Leone. Writes further to his letter of 13 December 1801, and advises that several Chiefs from the neighbouring shores have been at Fort Thornton expressing their abhorrence of the attack and the manner it was made on the morning of 18 November 1801. Reports that as a result of their appearance a Council was held at the Fort at which he was present and where it was agreed that a number of the Council together with an officer from the ship should go to the residence of King Firama, the Timmany Chief and demand his reasons for such an unprovoked attack. Advises that Morobundo, a Chief of great consequence in the river and much attached to the English, accompanied the Council members and Lieutenant Leech, and from his presence every good may be expected. Regrets the sailing of HMS Wasp and the Hope of Liverpool will not allow him to advise on the result of their embassy but will try to do so at the first opportunity.
