Folios 248-249: Thomas Browne, HMS Chapman, Plymouth Sound. Encloses the proceedings of HMS Chapman from her leaving Liverpool noting that the passage was hampered thoughout by stong winds and heavy seas. Adds that the ship is a light Merchantman of 600 tons, drawing only from 12 to 14 foot, and her best going is in smooth water but anchored at Plymouth before either HMS London or HMS Deptford, ordered on the same service a considerable time before HMS Chapman, and both coppered and fast sailors.
Folio 249-250: enclosure with folios 248-249. Journal of the proceedings of HMS Chapman from Liverpool to Milford, compiled by Thomas Browne, Captain. Notes position, wind conditions and remarks from the passage of the ship from 7 to 14 September 1801.
