Folio 383: Edward Bowater, HMS Magnificent, Cawsand Bay. Reports that neither Lieutenant Allen or Lieutenant Griffiths [Anselm John Griffiths] appointed to HMS Magnificent have yet joined her and Lieutenant Rains [Stephen Rains] not being able to do his duty, leaves the ship with only two Lieutenants. Requests the Lieutenants appointed be ordered to join as soon as possible. The Gunner has endeavoured to obtain an exchange but without effect and from the state of his health is incapable of doing his duty. Enclosed is a letter [not present] for Lieutenant Colonel Farmer Commanding the detachment of Royal Marines on HMS Magnificent stating the want of necessaries and he requests orders be given for such supplies as they think proper.
