Folios 363-366: P T Bover [Peter Turner Bover], HMS Hecla, Sheerness. Covering letter for the enclosed which he received yesterday from Mr Archdeacon [John Archdeacon] and point out that in the course of 8 months, 4 Pursers have been appointed to HMS Hecla, three have been obliged to decline the appointment from the large security required and the forth has deserted, owing to the utter inability of providing necessaries for the ship, with the usual allowance for that purpose. Requests another Purser be appointed.
Folio 364: enclosure with folio 363. Letter dated 5 February 1800 by John Archdeacon, HMS Lynx, Deptford, to P T Bover [Peter Turner Bover], HMS Hecla. Reply to request to join HMS Hecla. States that work required to be completed before he left HMS Lynx. The survey of stores and provisions etc and that Pursers are under the necessity of having a bond for their conduct which he unfortunately was not able to get for HMS Hecla, and declines the position.
