Folios 361-362: John Buchanan, HMS Roebuck, The Downs. Advises of the order from Vice Admiral Lutwidge and responds to orders from the Admiralty and sailed to the Helder. Cutters brought many troops from the 2nd Battalion of the 20th regiment and a transport ship brought more until both boats were too damaged. He was then advised by Colonel Brooke and the Principal Officers of that regiment to instruct the Commander of the transport ship HMS Liberty, to follow signals from HMS Roebuck to the first port in England. He was able to give supplies to the transport ship. He encountered bad weather and was forced to anchor off North Zeeland.
Folios 363-364: enclosure with folios 363-364. Letter dated 1 November 1799 by John Buchanan, HMS Roebuck, off Helder, to Admiral [Archibald?] Dickson. He has 400 of the troops on board HMS Roebuck. He reasons that he has no other choice but to use the transport ship and orders this to follow him to sea and the nearest English Port.
