Folios 354-355: John Buchanan, HMS Roebuck, Margaret Roads. In response to orders from Vice Admiral Mitchell, delivered via Captain Mainwaring to that place or the Downs. He has sent an express to Admiral Lutwidge with information of the anchorage having lost cables and hawsers sent with Lieutenant Gallaway, a Masters Mate and 12 men to assist HMS America, under Captain [John] Smith. Information from Captain Greegg that Lieutenant [Hirnsted?] gave equal assistance. HMS Roebuck was ready for the most arduous service. PS: The Carpenter reports the rudder has sprung, the Officers state it can be secured with plank and Captain Buchanan has sent off to Deal to consult Admiral Lutwidge for directions.
