Folios 259-261: Albermarle Bertie, HMS Renown, at sea. As soon as they left Bear Haven he was seized with a violent fit of gout so he is barely able to leave his cabin. It is necessary for him to relinquish command of the ship on her return to port. His condition has worsened whilst in the North Sea for 3 months and then on the expedition to Quiberon. Asks for leave of absence to be allowed from whichever port the ship is bound.
