Folios 238-239: Edward Berry, 2, Northumberland Buildings, Bath. Thanks for the letters forwarded, Lord Nelson is well, according to his last letter dated 19 November from Naples. He regrets his indisposition but has not improved since leaving town. Is sending a letter from Trieste giving news of the safety of some of HMS Leander's men. [James] Anderson is the Vice Consul whose zeal in the service he has experience. His attention to Captain Thompson and Officers of HMS Leander was excellent.

Folios 239-241: enclosure in folios 238-239. Letter dated 7 December 1798 by James Anderson, [Vice Consul], Trieste, to Captain Edward Berry. 30 Men from HMS Leander arrived from Corfu, leaving on the 3rd, he has given the Seamen all they needed. They reported that on the 29 November the Russian and Turkish fleet came and started firing on the town. During the night a French ship got into the port with a supply of flour. On 4th December Lord Horatio Nelson arrived at Naples, stayed three days and then sailed for Malta, the King marched with his troops to the frontiers of the Roman Republic. Gozo is now in the hands of Lord Nelson, he took 150 French prisoners, who he sent to France by their own means. Asks what to do concerning the expenses involved in clothing and feeding the Seamen.

Folio 240: enclosure in folios 238-239. Letter dated 7 December 1798 by G. Baldwin [formerly Consul in Egypt], Trieste. He hopes Captain Edward Berry will be able to return and join Lord Nelson, to finish a career of glory. The Neapolitans have entered the Roman territory and driven men from Ascoli. The Fleet has convoyed 7000 Neapolitans and landed them at Leghorn [Livorno], according to news from Venice. Corfu holds out but there is nothing from Egypt.
