Folios 255-259: William Butterfield, HMS Hazard, Plymouth. Advises that Edward Davis has returned to the ship yesterday and asks wether or not the 'R' is to be taken off.
Folio 257: blank.
Folios 256-258: enclosure with folios 255-259: Letter dated 9 December 1798 from Edward Davis, Purser, HMS Hazard, Plymouth, to Evan Nepean, the Admiralty. Explains how he and the Surgeon were accidentally left behind by HMS Hazard at Cork Harbour on 8 October 1798 and rejoined at the earliest opportunity when she arrived at Plymouth. Asks if this can be taken into consideration as there is now an 'R' against their names.
