Folios 170-171: George Burdon, HMS Alkmaar, entrance to the Needles. States the cases of John C Allwood, John Avia alias John Pananavis, and James Harris who are all claiming to be American citizens and exempt from impressment. States that John C Allwood has served in the Royal Navy for last 5 years and joined the ship from HMS Inflexible on 13 April 1798. Allwood claims to have been born in Movis Town, New Jersey but has no documents to prove his citizenship other than a copy of a will. John Avis, alias John Pananavis, claims to have been born in Calvert Country and was impressed on 12 August 1798 in Margate Roads. Encloses a certificate of his being an American citizen [item not enclosed]. James Harris was impressed at on 26 October 1798 and claims to be a native of Philadelphia but has no documents to prove he is an American.
