Folios 385-386: Sir Henry Blackwood, London. Encloses a letter received today from the Purser of HMS Brilliant. Mr Bartlett, the Purser recently appointed, has been in London for some time but has not taken up his appointment. Requests appointment of a replacement. The Purser of the sloop HMS Swan (Mr Bresnan) has been highly recommended and as HMS Swan is at Sheerness a transfer will be easy. Requests his appointment.
Folio 386-388: enclosure with folio 385-386. Letter dated 8 January 1798 by S Waller, HMS Brilliant, Sheerness, to Captain Blackwood. Reports that he sees no prospect of Mr Bartlett joining HMS Brilliant, and concludes he had no intention of ever joining her. Requests that Captain Blackwood applies for a replacement to succeed him, as he has had charge of the provisions and Pursers' stores of HMS Saldanha since 10 December and he is unable to carry out his duties on his new ship if he is not present on her. Requests a response.
