Folios 382-383: William Birchall, HMS Hebe, Liverpool. Reports that he set sail yesterday as the date for sailing with the convoy to the Elbe, at the request of the Merchants, provided the wind was favourable, but is now unable to proceed until the tides rise sufficiently, which will not be until Thursday 13 December. Also reports that after his arrival at Liverpool the bowsprit of the ship was found to be damaged, and the Carpenters of HMS Havick and HMS Hebe (the only ones from which a report could be obtained) recommended that it should be removed. The Merchants were anxious to get the ships away, so he had it fixed as best as possible and was determined to proceed. He has now re-examined the damage and thinks it is greater than he had suspected. He doubts that it will withstand the passage. Requests directions.
