Folios 146-147: Enclosure in folios 145, 148. Letter dated 15 March 1797 from Thomas Street, Mayor, Poole, to Captain Samuel James Ballard. He understands that the Captain is to convoy vessels to the west of Cape Clear. He has received a letter from Portsmouth saying theat HMS Pearl has made the signal for convoy. The merchants inform him that no ships are ready but will join him at Stokes Bay as soon as the wind permits. If they are unable to proceed to Stokes Bay he will send another express letter to inform him of the vessels being in Studland Bay.
