Folio 317: Sir Richard Bickerton, HMS Ramillies, Portsmouth. Encloses a letter from Lieutenant John Ides Short. If the Admiralty grant his request, asks that another Lieutenant be appointed who is junior to Lieutenant Trench [William Trench], in whom he has the highest confidence.
Folio 318: enclosure in folio 317. Letter dated 11 December 1796 by Lieutenant John Ides Short, HMS Ramillies, to Captain Sir Richard Bickerton. Asks Captain Bickerton to apply for him to be superceded, as he has family affairs to deal with.
